I just landed a job as a technical artist at a video game company, and now I'm in desperate need of a good machine. My current PC is ancient and won't cut it. Since I don't have a lot of cash to spend at once, I thought I could buy the parts gradually. However, that decision has backfired big time. I was looking at a total cost of around $3,000 for my build, but with the current RAM prices skyrocketing, it's now estimated at $4,000! I feel stuck because Micro-Center is sold out, and the prices I do see are outrageous. Right now, I'm hoping to secure a bid on eBay for half the RAM I originally wanted at $200. I'm really feeling overwhelmed and am looking for any advice on how to handle this situation or coping mechanisms, as I'm definitely not prepared to just cry myself to sleep every night!

Could you share your parts list? That price jump doesn’t add up unless you’re going for a massive amount of RAM. It might help to see where the cost increases are coming from.

Here's my parts list: [parts list link]. I think the RAM increase is at least $600 of the total cost.
