Why Does My PC Crash When Playing Demanding Games?

I'm having a frustrating issue where my PC crashes whenever I try to play high-demand games like Hearts of Iron IV or Fortnite. The whole system locks up and I hear a weird glitchy sound, similar to what you'd hear when a Wii U crashes, but it's just a looping noise of whatever the last thing my PC was outputting before it crashed.

It sounds like your PC might be overheating. Have you checked the temperatures of your CPU and GPU? I recommend using a program like Open Hardware Monitor to keep an eye on those stats. If they’re running too hot, you could improve cooling by cleaning out dust, especially around the fans and heatsinks. And make sure your fans are actually spinning as they should! You might also need to reapply thermal paste on your CPU if it's been a while. Another possibility could be a failing GPU, but that would be more complex to troubleshoot.

If your PC is relatively new and high-end, overheating might still be a factor, but it's also possible something isn't configured right. Make sure everything is seated properly and that there’s no unusual wear on any components.

What are your system specs? Knowing the details can help narrow down the issue. If you have an RTX 4070 Ti, an Intel i9-13900, and 16GB of RAM, your setup should typically handle those games just fine. It’s worth checking if you have any hardware issues or if there are updates needed.
