What’s the Best Storage Option for Games: Portable SSD or HDD?

Hey everyone! I have a 2TB SSD in my laptop, but it's packed full of games. I'm looking for a way to store the games I don't play often. I see a lot of recommendations for portable SSDs online, but my main goal is storage, not playing them from the external drive. What would be the best option for me—an SSD or an HDD? Thanks for any advice!

If you ever want to play games directly from the portable drive, go for a portable SSD, but for just storing them, an HDD will save you money. Just check that you have the right USB connections for the speed you want!

Just a tip—if you use a service like Steam, you can easily uninstall games and reinstall them whenever you want, which might save you storage space on your external drive if you keep your progress saved in the cloud!

Honestly, either will work, but remember that if you decide to play games off the SSD, it will be faster. However, your USB speed might become a bottleneck. If it’s just for storage, I’d say go for the HDD since you're likely not using it constantly.

HDDs can be much cheaper per gigabyte, especially for larger capacities. You can get a decent 4TB HDD for around $60, while SSDs with the same storage can hit over $200. Just keep in mind that HDDs are slower than SSDs. If you're just storing games and not using them regularly, HDD is definitely the way to go!

I thought HDDs were better for long-term storage but have read different things about SSDs. Any advice on that?

If you just want to store games and not necessarily play them directly from the drive, an HDD might be a better choice for you. They tend to offer a lot more space for the price compared to SSDs. Just be aware that SSDs can degrade over time if left unused for a long period, but if it's only for storage, HDDs are great!

Thanks! I was thinking of getting a 4TB HDD. Sounds like a solid plan!
