How do I change a user’s name in M365 and ensure it updates in Outlook?

I've never had to change a user's last name in M365 before, and I'm feeling a bit lost. I've set up everything correctly with the new primary username and email while keeping the old one as an alias. The new name is showing up in Teams and other M365 apps, but Outlook still displays the old name. I managed to fix it on their laptop by creating a new Outlook profile, but I'm struggling to update it on their desktop. Is there something I'm missing? Does it typically take a while for the changes to reflect?

Sometimes, these updates can take a day or even two to show everywhere in Microsoft 365. It's a bit of a waiting game. Usually, I just tell users that they should start seeing the changes by the next business day, but it can sometimes drag on for a week, depending on the system changes.

Exactly! It's all about Microsoft time—don't expect instant changes!

Have you tried signing out of Outlook completely, rebooting, and then signing back in? That sometimes helps with refreshing the user info and pulling the latest changes.

I did try that, but it still shows the old email addresses. The updated name is correct in File > Office Account though.

Where exactly are you still seeing the old name in Outlook? If it's in the autocomplete suggestions, you might need to delete the old entries. Also, have you downloaded the updated offline Global Address List? That can sometimes resolve these issues too.

It's showing the old name above "Inbox" and in File > Info under "Account Information." The circular icon in the top right does display the correct name, though.
