Do I need separate SSDs for booting, gaming, and work files?

I'm building a new PC with a B850E motherboard, a 9800x3d CPU, and a 5060 TI GPU. I'm wondering if I should get separate SSDs for booting up, games, and work files, or if a single 2TB M.2 SSD would suffice. I also do a lot of content creation, such as recording and video editing, so any recommendations for specific SSDs would be appreciated too.

A single SSD will work just fine to start with, but if you're doing a lot of video editing, you might find that you'll want a second SSD later on for better performance.

I prefer having multiple drives – one for the OS, one for games, another for work, and even an extra for archives. It keeps things organized, especially when you're working with a lot of data. But hey, that’s just my hoarder mentality!

If SSD prices were lower, I'd probably go for two smaller drives too, but I'm trying to stick to a budget right now.

I started with a single 4TB WD SN850X M.2 and partitioned it for OS and data. Eventually, I bought a second SSD for my OS. It made life easier not worrying about data loss while reinstalling the OS.

You don't really need separate drives, but it can help with organization and managing your workload better. If you're focused on keeping things tidy, having separate SSDs might be worth considering, but it's not a strict requirement.
