Does Running RAM at a Lower Speed Reduce Latency?

I'm considering a RAM module rated at 6800 MHz with a CAS latency of 32 for my upcoming build with a 9700X CPU. If I run this RAM at a lower speed, like 6000 MHz, will it also lower the latency? And if so, is that actually beneficial? I'm curious whether there's a significant difference in performance, especially since a 6000 MHz CL30 RAM option is also available but more expensive. Am I missing anything important here?

Yes, when you run the RAM at a lower speed, it can potentially have lower latency as well. But the catch is, you might need to manually adjust the timings instead of just enabling the XMP profile. If you’re okay with some tweaking, it can definitely be a good move!

Enabling the XMP or EXPO profile will keep your timings at CL32 even at 6000 MHz, so you won't automatically get lower latency just by reducing the clock speed. You’d have to manually adjust the timings if you want lower latencies.

Got it! So I can lower the speed and adjust some settings for better latency if I want to. Thanks for the heads-up!
