What Are the Default IPv6 Settings for Domain Controllers?

I'm working on a network where previous management made quite a few changes regarding IPv6 back in 2016. I have six domain controllers, each with different configurations, and I'm unsure about the best practices for IPv6 settings. From my experience, I prefer to leave default settings alone, but this time I need some clarification. Can someone confirm the default IPv6 settings for domain controllers? Specifically, I think it should be:

- IPv6 enabled
- The primary domain controller (PDC) should obtain an IP and use ::1 for DNS
- The other domain controllers should also obtain a DNS server, but should I set them to ::1 too?
- Ensure that DNS servers listen only on IPv4.

I've already corrected most of the settings, but I'm uncertain which domain controller is configured correctly. Any insights would be appreciated!

Definitely keep IPv6 enabled. For the PDC, it should point to itself for DNS as well as have its IPv4. The other DCs should have the PDC’s DNS as the first option, then set their own IPv4. You can configure DNS to listen on IPv4 only without issues.

I find it a bit odd to call IPv6 just a trend, especially since it's pretty crucial now. Just make sure you have all the addresses backed up, you wouldn't want to be scrambling if there's a failure on the IPv6 side!
