I recently had my device stolen and discovered that it was still able to send location data through the 'Find my device' feature after the theft. I'm curious if it's possible for the location data to be transmitted without someone actually logging into my Microsoft account. Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening in the future? I know that you can remove the Microsoft account from the device, but that doesn't stop someone from logging into the device locally. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

For a device to send any kind of data, it must be connected to the internet, so it might still be on a Wi-Fi network you’ve used before. Just to clarify, the real question is whether it can send location info without someone logging into your account, and the answer is yes, you can connect to the internet on Windows without being logged in.
It seems odd to want to disable tracking on a stolen device, but I think your concern is valid. You're right, keeping tracking on might help recover it, but I get that you want to figure out how the tracking still works.
