Why does my internet drop significantly after starting a game on Windows 11?

Hey everyone! I'm experiencing a weird issue with my internet speed. Normally, I get around 900 Mbps download and 110 Mbps upload, but as soon as I launch any game, my speeds plummet to about 10 Mbps down and 1 Mbps up. It was working fine earlier when I was playing some games and streaming, but now it feels impossible to enjoy anything. Has anyone experienced this before, or does anyone have an idea on how to fix it?

Are you experiencing this slowdown only on your main PC, or does the internet slow down for other devices in your home when you start a game? Just checking if it’s a device-specific issue or a broader network problem.

Nope, it only happens on my main PC and only after I start a game, everything else stays normal.

It sounds like you might have a network management app that's prioritizing your gaming traffic but limiting other apps' access to bandwidth. For example, Lenovo has its Vantage app that can enable a 'network boost' mode. Make sure to check if that’s enabled on your PC. If it is, try turning it off to see if that helps improve your speeds while gaming!

Yeah, I have Lenovo Vantage too, and I found the network boost setting was ON. I turned it off, and while it helped a bit, my Mbps rate is still not where it should be.

Good call! It's worth checking if there are other programs or settings interfering too. Maybe try disabling any background applications while gaming to see if that helps.
