Is This Colocation Quote a Good Deal?

I'm considering a colocation service for off-site backups and some hosted services, and I've received a quote that I want to run by you all. Here are the details: I'm looking at 3U of space, with 360 Watts at 208V, three outlets, a /29 IPv4 allocation, and a hefty 350TB bandwidth on a 10Gbps port. Overages are charged at $0.0025/GB, and there's free rack and stack included as well as free setup. It's a 12-month commitment with a location in LA, and it costs $100/month. My expected usage is around 100TB/month, so I'm not too concerned about the metered usage since I chose this option to avoid overcharges during traffic bursts. I'll be colocating a 1U firewall and a 2U server. Are there any potential issues or considerations I should be aware of?

Wow, that's a steal compared to my quote in Atlanta which is $145/month for a 1U server. Does this data center have a location in Atlanta too? That could be useful to know!

Yes, it looks like they have a presence in Atlanta! Check out their website for more details: www.colocrossing.com/colocation/atlanta-colocation.

Installing a physical firewall for just one server seems a bit over the top, but it can help with future expansion. If you're planning to add more nodes down the line, it's a smart choice! Just make sure to manage your budget accordingly, as scaling up might require more infrastructure later on.

I agree! Starting with an external firewall can simplify things for you later. Better to set it up now rather than scrambling when you need it down the road.

Exactly, budgeting now for that firewall will save you headaches later, especially if you find yourself needing to add more servers.

That price is pretty standard, especially compared to what I've seen with different ISPs. It sounds reasonable, but I’d compare with a few more options if you can to ensure you're getting the best deal.

If you have other options in mind, I'd love to hear about them! It can be tough to navigate all the choices out there.
