Hey everyone, I'm looking for some advice on what factors make a phone a good option for using as a hotspot. Should I prioritize RAM or having a 5G connection? I'm really interested in what will give me the fastest performance for tethering. Thanks a lot!

In some cases, you might be better off using a dedicated mobile router instead of your phone. They're designed specifically for that purpose and might give you better results overall, depending on your situation.

That’s a solid point! If you're frequently on the move, a mobile hotspot could save your phone's battery too.

You mentioned speed, so focus on 5G for sure. However, don’t overlook the specs like CPU and RAM - they help maintain stable connections. Anything beyond the really basic models should handle hotspot duties well. Just watch out for phones that only support older protocols, as those can slow down your connection.

Definitely go for a 5G connection if you can! It offers much better speeds compared to older networks like 4G or 3G. Also, make sure your cell phone plan allows hotspot usage without heavy restrictions; some plans might slow you down after a certain data limit. As for RAM, you don't need a super high-end device, but avoid the cheapest options. They may struggle with hotspot tasks.

Yeah, I agree! A good mix of plan and device is key, especially if you need reliability.

I think a decent phone that's not at the bottom of the barrel should work just fine for most general uses.
