Why is my gaming PC using so much RAM while idle?

I've noticed that my gaming PC is using a surprising amount of RAM when it's idle, ranging from 21% to 27%. Even though I have only a few background apps running, like Razer Synapse, LG G Hub, and the Nvidia app, their combined usage is around 600MB. Additionally, Steam accounts for about 750MB, and I have minor background processes like antivirus that use another 200MB. Despite this, it doesn't seem like I should be seeing such high usage. I've minimized my startup apps and regularly run scans for malware, yet I'm still concerned. Is this normal, or could there be hidden software that's eating up my RAM? How can I reduce this usage?

Yeah, it’s pretty common nowadays for idle memory usage to sit around 6GB to even 8GB. A lot of this is due to the way Windows manages RAM. If you want to dig deeper, you can try using RAMMap to analyze your RAM usage. It can give you detailed insights into what's hogging your memory. I’m glad to hear that! I’ve always found the memory management confusing, especially since I remember my old system using a lot less with just 16GB. But if it’s normal for more RAM to be used these days, then that’s a relief. I just want to keep my PC running smooth, so it's good to ask.

Welcome to the quirks of Windows! It’s quite common, and many users experience higher idle RAM usage now. Just remember that more RAM isn't necessarily bad—your system is likely just caching data to help with performance. If you’re worried, consider light operating systems like Linux that can offer lower memory usage!

I know what you mean! I used to have bitcoin miners on my PC too, so I always keep a close eye on my resources now. It can be tricky, but now that I know it’s normal, I feel better.
