My fiancée just tried to use her PC after a couple of days off due to the flu, and it seems to have developed a DNS issue with the ethernet connection. The Wi-Fi works fine, but the PC keeps showing an error about the DNS cache when she tries to connect via ethernet. I've already tried a bunch of common fixes like changing the IP settings and running various ipconfig commands in the command prompt, but nothing has worked. I even reset the network settings and reinstalled the ethernet network adapter, yet I'm still stuck. Could the ethernet adapter itself be faulty?

It sounds frustrating! First, check what the exact error message about the DNS cache says; that might give a clue. Also, has there been any visible issue with the PC itself, or did this just start happening out of the blue? Sometimes hardware can go bad, but it’s good to rule out other issues first before assuming the adapter is the culprit.

The error only mentions a DNS cache issue with a couple of troubleshooting options offered. The PC hasn’t shown any problems until now, but after trying all those fixes, I’m wondering if the hardware might be to blame.
