Is the Intel i9 12900KS a Good Choice for My PC Build?

I'm building a new PC and have the chance to buy a brand new Intel i9 12900KS for $290. Is this a good deal? Should I consider a newer model at that price point instead? Also, I'm curious if this CPU would work well with a B580 or the rumored B770 motherboards. My main uses are CAD and sim racing, and I'm planning to stick with Intel for both the CPU and GPU.

The 12900KS is a solid choice! It performs similarly to the 13700K and 14700K, so you should have no issues with it for sim racing or CAD. Just make sure to pair it with a robust cooling solution, like a 420mm AIO, and a good power supply—at least a 1000W due to its high power consumption.

For your intended use, the i9 12900KS is a beast. The price of $290 is quite fair for a brand new unit. I see you prefer Intel for both CPU and GPU, but keep in mind that AMD and Nvidia do have some great options that might perform better.

I hear you! In Singapore, the B580 GPU is like the only one available at near MSRP, but it’s still pricey compared to others.
