I'm still getting the hang of MECM. I've deployed Windows updates to our servers a couple of times with help from a coworker, but now I'm a bit stuck. After Patch Tuesday, our senior engineer would let the team know when we could start creating deployment packages. He mentioned there was something he needed to do first that would take around 24 hours, but now that he's been laid off, no one knows what that process entails. I'm hoping to get some clarity on what needs to be done before I can create software update groups and deployment packages. Any insights would be appreciated!

If you're looking for what your senior engineer did, it might involve setting up Automatic Deployment Rules (ADRs) that can automatically download updates and create software update groups. That wait after Patch Tuesday could be the time needed for the updates to distribute correctly across your network.
You might want to check out a video tutorial I found that explains the process! It covers deploying updates effectively and should help clarify some of the steps you’ll need to take after Patch Tuesday.

Yeah, I noticed our ADR is configured only for Windows Defender updates right now. We typically create software update groups and deployment packages manually every month. I wish I could reach out to him, but my manager said I shouldn't.
