Is it time to upgrade from my Ryzen 7 2700X?

I'm currently using a Ryzen 7 2700X, paired with an RX 6600 8GB and 16GB of DDR4 RAM. I'm considering upgrading to a Ryzen 5 7600X, along with a new motherboard and 32GB of DDR5 RAM. The main reason for this upgrade is to reduce the noticeable CPU bottleneck I'm experiencing, especially to enhance my gaming in Arc Raiders. Will I experience a significant performance boost with this change? Also, I'm thinking about adding an RTX 5060 later if I feel the need for better GPU power.

Upgrading to the Ryzen 7600X will definitely give you a notable performance increase, especially in gaming. It's said to be about twice as fast as your current 2700X when it comes to gaming performance, but just keep in mind that with your RX 6600, you might not fully tap into that performance boost. The GPU could hold you back a bit.

You might want to consider a Ryzen 5 5600X as an alternative; it should give you around a 20% boost in gaming performance without the extra expense of DDR5. That could be a more cost-effective upgrade for now, especially if you're not ready to switch to DDR5 RAM yet!

Making the jump from a 2700X to a 7600X is substantial, especially for games that demand more CPU power like Arc Raiders. You should notice a significant boost in minimum FPS and overall stability. Even though your RX 6600 won't let you cash in on the 7600X's full potential, the improvements will still be quite noticeable. If you add that RTX 5060 later, you should be in good shape!

The RX 6600 is a known bottleneck, and it sounds like you're really feeling that with your current setup. While I don't have benchmarks for the 2700X, I saw that newer Ryzen chips typically perform within 10% of similar tier CPUs in various benchmarks. Upgrading to the 7600X will alleviate some of that bottleneck, especially in CPU-heavy games like Arc Raiders. If you do plan to add the 5060 later, that could round out your system very nicely.

Absolutely go for the upgrade! Just a heads up though, I'd recommend considering the RX 9060 XT over the RTX 5060. Both the 8GB and 16GB versions of the 9060 XT are more powerful and better priced than the 5060. The 16GB one, especially, has been compared favorably against the 5060 Ti!
