Hey everyone! I'm wondering if I should upgrade from my RTX 3080 to the 5070 for my 1440p gaming setup. I bought my 3080 back in September 2022, but I'm worried that since it's now about 3.5 years old, it might die on me soon, and I could end up paying a premium for a new card. My current setup includes a Ryzen 5800X3D and 32 GB of 3600MHz RAM, and I typically play RPGs and AAA titles. I'm based in Canada and can get a 10% employee discount on Amazon, but I've noticed that prices for the 5070 are rising, and sometimes it's unavailable. Should I just go ahead and upgrade now, or stick with my 3080 for a while longer? Also, if I decide to sell my 3080, are there safer places than Facebook Marketplace? Appreciate any advice!

Why are you worried about your card dying? GPUs last longer than you think as long as you take care of them. If temp issues are your concern, just repaste it!
Unless you're really unhappy with the performance of your RTX 3080, I'd suggest just sticking with it for another 3-4 years. It still performs well!
Three years is nothing for a GPU. Seriously, mine's over six years old and still going strong. Upgrade if you have the extra cash and really want to, but don’t do it just out of fear of failure. Prices are going up, so if you decide to buy, act fast!
What games are you struggling to run at 1440p with your 3080? I've found it handles everything just fine!
You might want to go for at least the 5070 Ti. I've got the same setup as you and have found that I can hold on to my system for a couple more years, even at 4K. I'm currently running games at 4K Ultra Performance and it looks great at 85-110 fps! I was torn between the 5070 and the 9070 XT, but I think Nvidia's DLSS tech is a strong reason to stick with them for now. I plan to upgrade around the 6000 series launch when the prices stabilize.
But isn't the 3090 comparable to the 5070? I think you're good with what you have!
I heard the 6000 series might be delayed, so pricing could be unpredictable. Just be cautious.
I'm in a similar boat but in the US. I'm looking to upgrade from my 3060. If you're into Ray Tracing, then consider upgrading. Otherwise, AMD might give you better performance for your money. Also, check sites like hardware swap or trade-in programs.
Yeah, and don't forget to factor in your CPU and gaming preferences too!
I've had my 3080 for five years and it's still going strong. I’m debating on whether to start a fresh build with the 5080, but it’s costly!
Only upgrade if you feel like your 3080 isn't cutting it anymore, which I think will be at least another 2-3 years from now.
Honestly, the 5070 is more of a sidegrade than a real upgrade. If you're mainly looking for more VRAM, consider the 9070 XT instead!
An upgrade would get you 10% more performance but with only 2 GB more VRAM. I'd say no thanks.
The 5070 is only a small bump over the 3080, unless you really want the new DLSS features. Keep the 3080; it was designed to last and I bet it'll hold up longer than you think. If you're adventurous, look into repasting it if temps are a concern!

Yeah, my main concern is the card's age. I really love the performance of my 3080 though, so what would you recommend?
