Why Are My Games Lagging on My New Laptop?

I recently got a new laptop for school, and while it has decent specs, I'm experiencing lag when I try to play certain games. For instance, I can run Rocket League without issues, but when I switch to more demanding games like Rainbow Six, Red Dead Redemption, or even Schedule 1, the performance drops significantly to about 30-40 fps. I'm starting to wonder if my laptop just isn't really designed for gaming, but I'd like to know if there's a straightforward fix I can try. Here are my specs: Intel(R) Core(TM) Ultra 9 185H processor at 2.50 GHz and 64.0 GB of RAM (63.5 GB usable).

Yep, it’s always plugged in when I game. I usually leave it connected unless I need to take it to class.

Make sure your laptop is plugged into a power source while gaming, especially for those heavier titles. Gaming on battery often triggers power-saving modes that can slow down performance dramatically. How's the power situation for you?
