Is it worth getting a SATA SSD instead of a second NVMe?

I just built my PC and I'm wondering if there's any real reason to choose a SATA SSD over adding a second NVMe drive. Are there situations where a SATA SSD makes sense?

Only really worth it if you're trying to breathe new life into an older system by replacing an HDD. Otherwise, if your build is modern, NVMe is the better choice.

Yeah, but if you find a great deal on a SATA drive, it could still make sense.

They're definitely better than HDDs! Often cheaper than NVMe drives too. Honestly, a lot of users don’t need NVMe speeds for everyday tasks, so a SATA SSD is a good choice if you find one at a reasonable price.

Exactly! For less demanding tasks, SATA is still pretty fast.

True, but keep in mind that HDDs last a bit longer for cold storage cases.

If your motherboard fills up all the NVMe slots, you may need to go SATA for additional fast storage. It still works well for gaming and everyday tasks without too much fuss.

SATA drives also handle heat better in some setups, so that’s a plus if you’re in a tight space.

I totally agree! Plus, for some people, SATA's reliability has been impressive.

If you need additional storage and only have a SATA port available, then a SATA SSD could be the way to go. If you have an extra NVMe port, definitely use that instead for better performance. But SATA can be a good backup if you're tight on space.

Totally! SATA is a solid second option, especially if you need storage fast without breaking the bank.

Remember that NVMe drives can eat up your PCIe lanes, so if you're planning to add other cards, keep that in mind!

If you don’t have room for another NVMe or if SATA is significantly cheaper, go for it! SATA SSDs can still provide good performance for general use.

Right now, the prices for SATA aren’t as low as they used to be, so keep an eye on deals.
