How do I set up my monitor as a second screen for my laptop?

I have a monitor connected to a capture card that's hooked up to my laptop for streaming. I'm aiming to use my laptop to play games on the monitor while having OBS open on my laptop screen. Any tips on how to make this work? Thanks!

Make sure you have the correct connections made. The order should be Laptop -> Capture Card -> Monitor. Also, check if your capture card needs any special drivers or software to function properly.

Gotcha! I’ll double-check the connections and software. Thanks for the advice!

If you’re still facing issues with screen captures, you might need to adjust the video settings within OBS!

You’ll want to connect your monitor to your laptop directly or use the capture card as an intermediary. Basically, it should go like this: Laptop -> capture card input (using HDMI or USB-C) -> capture card output -> monitor. Also, make sure your capture card is connected to the laptop via USB.

Exactly! And don’t forget to toggle your display settings on the laptop using the function key until you see the second screen set up correctly.

Glad you got that part figured out! Just a heads-up, if your OBS is capturing weirdly, it might be a settings issue, but we can help with that too!
