I recently completed my new PC build just two days ago, but I'm facing a frustrating problem with one of my SSDs connected to the M2_1 slot. It doesn't show up in the BIOS or in Windows. I've tried several troubleshooting steps:
- I updated the BIOS.
- Disabled the VMD option.
- Updated the Intel chipset drivers and Intel ME.
- Tested the SSD in another slot where it worked fine, but I want to use that slot for another SSD.
- Tried a different SSD in the M2_1 slot, but it wasn't recognized either.
Everything else on the computer works perfectly, and both my IT friend and others I've consulted believe it's not a major issue since the system is functioning. However, it makes me anxious that this slot isn't working. My motherboard is an ASUS B760M PLUS Wi-Fi DDR4, and my CPU is an i5-14600K, with the SSD being a Kingston 1TB PCIe 4.0. In the SA Configuration, it shows "x0" for the M.2_1 link speed. I'd appreciate any advice or insight on this issue!

It sounds like the M2_1 slot might be defective. Typically, a motherboard doesn't disable M.2 slots out of the box, so I doubt it's a settings issue. Check if the slot looks loose or damaged and that the SSD is fitted securely. If it's defective, consider returning the motherboard if it's still under warranty, or you could just use an adapter to install your SSD in a different PCIe slot to avoid the hassle of RMA.
There’s a chance that the M2_1 slot could be disabled for 14th gen CPUs. I came across something in the manual that suggested M2_1 may only function with certain CPU generations. It’s worth checking out the manual—sometimes specific slots are only usable with specific CPU models, similar to what happened to a friend of mine who's using an 11th gen CPU.
