How to Format Video Files for My TEAC LCDV2257DVR TV?

I'm trying to play videos on my TEAC LCDV2257DVR which has a USB port and disc drive. I downloaded some .mkv files from Google Drive and put them on a USB drive, but the TV won't recognize them. I tried renaming the files to .mp4 and then to .AVI, but none of that worked. I even converted the .mkv files to .avi format using a video converter, yet I'm still stuck. The TV shows a 'video codec not supported' message every time I try to play the files. Any advice?

You might want to try using a video converter to change the .mkv files to .mp4. That's generally a format most devices can read. If you continue having trouble, it could be an issue with the encoding rather than just the file format.

The mp4 files aren't even showing up on the TV when I plug in the USB.

I was reading up on that model, and it seems like the USB port is meant for DVR functionality, not for playing media files. So, if you're trying to use it for video playback, that might be the problem. Some USBs work for recording but not for playing files back.

I know the USB has some old Barbie movies that play fine, so they must be compatible somehow!

It's important to know that formats like mp4, avi, and mkv are just containers. Renaming a file doesn't change what type of video codec is used inside. You should use a converter like HandBrake and convert the videos using the H264 codec for better compatibility with your TV, especially since that model is pretty old and might only support MPEG4.
