How do I upgrade from Windows Server 2016 to 2022?

I'm trying to upgrade my Windows Server from 2016 to 2022. When I attempt to run the upgrade script, it doesn't recognize the arguments. If I just run setup.exe, it immediately starts a clean installation without offering options to keep files or change settings, jumping straight to the installation screen. Interestingly, I had no issues when upgrading from 2016 to 2019; that worked fine from the script and allowed me to make choices during installation. Can anyone help me figure out how to tackle this?

It sounds like you might run into some driver compatibility issues. A workaround could be to first upgrade to Windows Server 2019, then move on to 2022 after that. This has worked for others.

I agree, starting with 2019 could save you a lot of hassle.

You might want to consider doing a fresh install of Server 2022 instead of trying to upgrade directly. Also, remember to back up everything first—just in case!
