I've been fascinated with the concept of the singularity since I first heard about it a few years ago from my college professor. Recently, a Black Mirror episode called "Plaything" reminded me of this idea, and now I'm eager to dive deeper into any media related to the singularity. Can anyone recommend some good movies or books that explore this theme?

For a more optimistic take, try *Fully Automated Luxury Communism* by Aaron Bastani. It's a wider view but might inspire you. Also, *The Coming Wave* is a decent read from someone working in the field, and *Superintelligence* by Nick Bostrom is considered a classic for those worried about AI. Just a tip, keep up with the latest tech news since things change fast! Also, some great podcasts are out there if you're into that format.

Definitely check out the series *Pantheon*. It's a must-watch for anyone interested in this topic! Both seasons are well-written and really dive into the concept. Just a heads up, the mind uploading part might be a bit too intense for some viewers.

Yeah, that scene shocked me too! I couldn't believe how intense it was; I might have been a bit too high when I watched it, though.

You should look into *Metamorphosis of Prime Intellect*. It's a thought-provoking book, but be mindful if you're sensitive to violence. It'll definitely give you a unique perspective on the theme.

If you haven't read Ray Kurzweil's books, definitely start there! He discusses the evolution of technology as part of human progress. Also check out *Life 3.0* by Max Tegmark and some earlier works by Cory Doctorow. They all touch on these ideas pretty well! Oh, and I thought *Plaything* was brilliant too!

Any specific titles from Kurzweil that you suggest I start with?

You might also want to give *Transcendence* with Johnny Depp a go. It’s not perfect, but it’s entertaining and falls right in line with these themes. I personally enjoyed it!

I actually love that movie too! It's pretty underrated.
