Is It a Good Time to Build a PC for My Sister?

I'm considering building my sister her first PC so she can enjoy gaming with me instead of struggling with her overheating gaming laptop. I'm planning on using a second-hand 5700xt, a Ryzen 5 5600 CPU, a B450 motherboard, 1TB of storage, and 16GB of DDR4 RAM. However, the rising prices for RAM have really thrown a wrench in my budget. I wanted to create a decent build for her since she's been saving a lot of money for this. Should I continue searching for parts, or is it better to wait until prices stabilize? I'm also a broke college student, so any advice would be really helpful!

If you're debating on a PC vs a console, consider that too! An Xbox or PS5 could also be good options if crossplay is available for the games you want to play together.

That’s a solid option; I didn’t think about that!

Yeah, today's consoles offer a lot of great gaming options!

If you can swing it financially, building now might be better than waiting. Prices might dip in the future, but that could take a while, and you don't want to miss out on gaming together. Just keep an eye out for good deals as you go!

Honestly, the best time to buy is when you can afford to. Waiting for prices to drop is like gambling; you never know when it might happen. If you can get a decent build together now, go for it! You’ll create amazing memories with her that you can’t get back later.

Totally agree, plus a year of gaming is more valuable than waiting around for prices to change!

That makes sense! I don't want to miss that time with her.

You could also try undervolting her laptop if it’s overheating. That helped me reduce temps by quite a bit during gaming sessions!

I’ll definitely check that out next time I’m home, thanks!

That’s a good idea! Sometimes minor tweaks can make a big difference.

I actually have 16GB of 3200MHz DDR4 RAM that I can send your way if you're in the U.S., just pay for shipping!

Wow, that’s super generous of you! Really appreciate it!

That's really nice! If only I was in the States!
