I'm trying to get my old early 2000s Vaio laptop back in action. The laptop specifies an AC input of 10.5V at 1.9A, but my only option is a USB C to DC cable that connects to a 12V power bank. I want to know if using this 12V power bank is too risky and what precautions I should take. I really don't want to damage my laptop!

Pushing 12V into your laptop that usually runs on 10.5V might work, but there's definitely a risk. Providing higher voltage can potentially fry the laptop's components. I’d say there's about a 50% chance it will run fine, a 30% chance it could wear the laptop out prematurely, and a 20% risk you’ll let the magic smoke out. If you can, look for a power source closer to 10.5V instead!
I wouldn't risk it either. There's a significant chance you could damage your laptop by using the higher voltage. It’s better to play it safe!
It could work for a bit, but there’s also a chance you'll fry your laptop right away. The bottom line is, it's pretty hard to predict. If you can avoid it, that might be the safer choice.
