I'm considering upgrading my Ryzen 5 1600 to a Ryzen 7 5700X for $175. Recently, I revamped my setup on an AM4 platform with a new RTX 5070 and an 850W PSU. Currently, I have the following specs:

- RTX 5070
- Ryzen 5 1600
- MSI B350 Gaming Pro Carbon
- 48GB DDR4 3200MHz

The CPU seems to be the only component lagging behind, and I'm wondering if this upgrade is worth it. I've already invested quite a bit in the GPU, and I'm worried about rising CPU prices. Moreover, how long can I expect this build to last if I'm not looking to max out games?

Yes, definitely worth it! Even a Ryzen 5 5600 or 3600 would be great too. The first-gen Ryzen series doesn't quite keep up, especially for gaming. If you can find a 5700X3D, that would be even better!

Just a heads up, your B350 motherboard might limit the 5700X a bit, especially since it doesn't support PCIe Gen 4. Also, ensure your RAM is stable at 3200MHz, as first-gen Ryzen can be picky about that.

Totally worth it! Upgrading to the 5700X is a significant performance boost. If you can find it cheaper, that’s a bonus, but even at $175, it's a solid deal.

Good point about needing a BIOS upgrade for the B350 to support the 5xxx series. You might need a Ryzen 3xxx chip first to flash it if your BIOS is outdated.

Yeah, you'll see a noticeable upgrade. Also, consider whether you really need that 48GB of RAM. If not, swapping to two 16GB sticks could improve stability and performance.
