Why is my new laptop getting low FPS in games?

Hey everyone! I recently bought a laptop, but I'm concerned about its low FPS in games. It used to belong to someone who didn't know much about computers, so it had a ton of programs that started up every time it was turned on, making it really sluggish. Here are the specs of my laptop:

- Model: fx505dt
- Operating System: Windows 11
- CPU: Ryzen 7 3750H
- GPU: GTX 1650
- Memory: 8GB DDR4

After resetting it through Windows 11, I installed all the necessary updates and drivers, including the chipset and HDMI drivers from Asus, and I've used the Nvidia app to update the GPU drivers too. I checked Device Manager and everything seems fine, with no warning symbols.

However, I'm only getting 40-70 FPS in Counter Strike 2 at 1080x1920 resolution on the lowest settings. I'm not super tech-savvy, so I'm hoping to get some advice on what else I can do to improve this situation. Any tips? Thanks for reading!

Try checking the video driver on the manufacturer's website. Sometimes they offer newer drivers than the ones you can download through your laptop's brand. Also, don’t forget to update the BIOS; it can help with performance issues too. If those don’t work, consider lowering the in-game graphics settings a bit further to improve usability.

It sounds like you've done a lot already! I recently saw some videos showing that with your CPU and GPU, you might need 16GB of RAM to get better FPS in games like CS2. Your specs are decent, but not top-of-the-line, so performance can vary. Remember, laptops generally don't run as efficiently as desktops, hence your old setup with an i5 and GTX 960 performing better in CS:GO.

That's interesting! I didn’t think about checking RAM upgrades, but I'll definitely look into that. It makes sense that older rigs might still hold up thanks to better cooling and power.
