Can I Transfer My Laptop’s SSD to My Desktop?

I have an old laptop with a broken RAM, and I've decided not to use it anymore. I'm wondering if I can remove the SSD from the laptop and install it in my desktop. The laptop's SSD has Windows on it; should I format it before putting it in the desktop, or can I just install it as-is? If I need to format it, how do I do that so I can set it up as a fresh SSD for my desktop?

You can definitely use the SSD in your desktop! Just install it, then head over to Disk Management to format it. If you're using a second M.2 slot on your motherboard, keep in mind it might affect your graphics card's PCI-E lanes, depending on your setup.

Absolutely! Once it's connected, if you want to use it as the main drive, be aware that the Windows license key is linked to your original laptop's motherboard, so activating it might be necessary. After plugging it in, boot from your desktop drive, then format the laptop SSD either through File Explorer or Disk Management. Just remember to allocate the drive after formatting!

So, if I want to make the laptop SSD my new boot drive, can I clone my current desktop drive to it after formatting? Is that a viable option?
