I'm looking for free or open-source applications that effectively handle SNMP traps and monitoring. Currently, I'm using Zabbix, which works great for SNMP GET tasks, but configuring SNMP trap processing is quite cumbersome. It feels unnecessary to set up basic SNMP trap items manually or create my own templates. Ideally, I'm looking for solutions that can process and alert me on fundamental SNMP traps like cold boot, warm boot, link up, and link down. Any recommendations?

Opsview is worth looking into too. We’re experimenting with it alongside a Grafana/Prometheus setup, but it can get a little tricky with different schemas and MIBs. Don't forget LibreNMS as well; it's a good choice for SNMP handling.
I think there's a solution for the manual SNMP trap item setup in Zabbix using low-level discovery (LLD). Have you looked into that? It might save you some effort.
Have you considered checking out LibreNMS? It's a solid option for managing SNMP traps and can simplify a lot of the configuration you're struggling with.
