Hey everyone! A friend of mine is putting together a new PC and I'm helping him out. He's planning to use it for gaming and streaming, specifically with a 5070 graphics card and an i5-14400 processor. Given how high RAM prices are these days, he's wondering if 16GB of DDR5 RAM will be enough. He aims to play at 2K resolution without running into issues. What do you all think? Is 16GB sufficient for his needs, or should he go for 32GB instead?

If he's planning to stream while having a browser open for chat or other tasks, I'd definitely recommend going with 32GB. It’ll give him a comfortable buffer for multitasking during his streams.
I was thinking 16GB might not cut it either, especially for what he wants to do. 32GB sounds more future-proof for streaming and gaming at 2K.
For streaming, 32GB is the way to go. You might manage with 16GB just for gaming, but to avoid sacrificing performance or closing other applications, going with 32GB is better.
If he's interested in a system using the 1700 socket for some reason, then 32GB of DDR4 might be the better choice overall because DDR4 is a solid option for performance/price.

Yeah, DDR5 offers some performance upgrade, but if the budget is tight, 32GB of DDR4 can definitely deliver better value than just 16GB of DDR5.
