Are My Intel 9700K Temperatures Too High?

I'm using an Intel 9700K with an NH-D15 cooler, and I've set some aggressive fan curves because I often wear headphones. However, I've noticed that under load, the CPU temperature can reach the high 80s and even dip into the low 90s Celsius. Is this typical for others who have or have had this CPU? I'm open to any tips or questions you might have!

That seems a bit high for that CPU. Have you checked the thermal paste lately? Since the 9700K is from 2018, the paste might have dried out or degraded over time.

I was thinking the same thing! I haven't changed mine since installation either, and I used Noctua thermal paste, which I heard is still a solid choice.

The max temperature (Tj max) is around 100°C for the 9700K, so they do run hot. I think replacing the thermal paste is a good call.

Those temps are on the warmer side for your cooler and CPU combo. I’d recommend remounting the cooler and applying fresh thermal paste. Also, double-check that the cooler is sitting properly and functioning as it should.

Thanks for the advice! I'll definitely tackle that on my next day off.
