Can I mix 2×8 and 2×16 RAM sticks in my PC?

Hey everyone! I built a PC back in 2020 primarily for school and sound design work, and now I'm thinking about upgrading my RAM to improve performance while running my DAW and some Chrome tabs. I currently have Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 16 GB (2 x 8 GB), and I'm looking to add a Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) kit. Will this combination work together? Any advice would be appreciated!

It should work without major issues! Just keep in mind you might lose some speed due to the mixed sizes, but more capacity is generally a good trade-off.

You could mix them theoretically, but you'd need to ensure they match in speed and timings. DDR generations can be tricky with compatibility. I used to mix RAM kits back in the DDR2 days without issue, but now it's more complicated, so I can’t guarantee success with that setup.

Honestly, I’d just stick with 2x16 GB if you can. It’ll simplify things for you and generally perform better.

Exactly! Make sure to install them in slots 2 and 4 with the 16 GB sticks for optimal performance.

Yes, but there might be some impact on RAM timings. I’ve had luck with unmatched kits hitting decent speeds, but if you go beyond a certain point, you might need to adjust those timings. It's great that you're sticking with the same brand though! What are the timings for each kit, and what motherboard and CPU are you using?

I have the Asus Prime X570-PRO and a Ryzen 7!
