How Should I Save My Old Photos From an Old Laptop?

I just found an old laptop that surprisingly still works! I'm really excited because it has so many old photos that I thought I'd lost forever. I'm considering using an external hard drive to save them all. Is that the best option, and if so, which type should I get?

You could also consider burning your photos to DVDs. That way, you have a physical copy to store safely, and you can still upload them online later if needed.

Using both an external drive and a cloud service is a smart move! This way, if one method fails, you still have your photos safe somewhere else. I recommend services like Google Photos or iCloud as backups since external hard drives can fail after a while.

If you're looking at long-term storage, spinning hard drives are traditionally better for archival purposes. I've had mine for over a decade with everything intact. Just be cautious with SSDs, as they can fail unexpectedly. I also use iCloud and Google Photos, and they’ve worked wonderfully for me!

An external hard drive is okay, but don't forget about cloud options like Google Photos! It's super reliable, and you'll avoid losing your photos if your hard drive crashes in a few years. Just make sure you back them up on the cloud for safety.

Thanks for the suggestion! I hadn’t thought of using Google Photos. Is there a way to also upload my photos to iCloud?

I know this might sound silly, but I connect my photos to OneDrive, and when I downloaded the app on my phone, nothing was saved. How do I ensure they are backed up to OneDrive instead of just on my computer?
