I recently made the leap from an RTX 3070 to an RTX 5070. After almost four years with the 3070—which has been a solid card—I've noticed it's starting to struggle at 1440p with current AAA games, often failing to hit 60fps even on medium settings. I decided to go for the ASUS DUAL 5070 OC for its fan performance options and fit in my case. While some argue this card is on par with the 4090 (which I disagree with), it seems to meet my needs for playing at 1440p on high settings. I don't prioritize ray tracing much. However, I'm a bit anxious about the 12GB VRAM—how much of a concern should that be for future games? I plan to pick up titles like Resident Evil Requiem and the new Fable later this year that the 5070 should handle without issue. I'm less worried about my Ryzen 5 5600X CPU, which has been pretty reliable, but I wonder how it will perform alongside a GPU as strong as the 5070 at 1440p. Additionally, I'm curious if my older 3070 might be thermal throttling due to high temps during gaming since my NZXT H440 case isn't ideal for airflow. Can an aging GPU develop thermal issues, or even require repasting?

You're going to be just fine with 12GB at 1440p! That's more than enough to handle most current games, and I doubt you'll have any major issues.
1440p works great, but just keep in mind that for the newest titles, you might need to tweak settings a bit, especially textures. But with DLSS, you can still go for high settings in most games!
Exactly! As long as you're not trying to push everything to ultra, you'll be alright.
With 32GB of RAM and your GPU, your system should perform excellently. The 5600X is still a strong contender, and you might only need to lower textures slightly in the future. No biggie!
Thanks a bunch! That's a relief. I'm not eyeing 4K and I'll also stick to DLSS.
Nope, you’re not screwed at all! Your setup sounds solid, and the 12GB VRAM should hold up well for the games you're looking forward to playing.
That's great to hear! Makes the upgrade even more reassuring for me.
I have a similar setup, and while my card is a bit older, dialing back some graphics settings has worked for me. VRAM might become an issue years down the line, but you can always reduce settings if needed. Just a heads up about older GPUs—they can develop thermal issues, especially if they haven't been maintained well. I had to repaste mine, which improved temps and performance a lot!
Totally agree! Keeping your case airflow optimized is key; having those fans set up right can make all the difference!

True, even the 3070 can manage at that resolution with 8GB. You’re definitely upgrading to something better!
