Do You Know Any Glossaries for Programming Workflow Terms?

I'm trying to get a better grasp on the terminology used in programming workflows. While I'm familiar with basic programming concepts like variables and algorithms, I find myself struggling with more practical terms like 'compile', 'library', and 'IDE'. I'm not looking for a deep dive into programming languages, but rather a glossary or resource that explains these workflow-related terms in a way that makes sense. Is there a specific category these terms fall into? I was thinking about calling them 'housekeeping' or 'workflow', but searching for those hasn't yielded much help. If there's a dictionary or even a simple word that captures what I'm looking for, I'd love to know!

I don’t think there’s an official glossary for those terms specifically. When I need to look up something, I often check out 'awesome' lists on GitHub. For example, if I'm interested in popular Python libraries, I’d search for 'GitHub awesome python' and find useful resources. You can find awesome lists for lots of topics, including computer vision, Raspberry Pi projects, and even lists of lists! They can provide a good introduction to various tools and libraries beyond just looking up the terms themselves.

This approach sounds great! I might start compiling my own list too, just to keep things organized. It’s comforting to know I’m not the only one who struggles with these terms. Like when I learned HTML, I understood the code but couldn’t grasp how to actually get that on the internet. It felt like there should be more guidance on these practical steps!

Yeah, sometimes the terminology can be really confusing. It's all about learning as you go and finding the right resources that break things down for you. Books and documentation often cover this terminology quite well.

It’s not just a jargon issue you’re facing. It sounds like you're unsure about the practical steps themselves. Like, would a newbie carpenter know how to build a house without knowing the names of the tools? Sometimes you just have to dive in and figure out what you need, even if you don’t know the exact terms yet. It might help to express what you're trying to accomplish in simpler terms and go from there.

Totally! If you’re a beginner, it’s all about framing your questions right. Just like with carpentry, knowing what you’re trying to do makes a big difference in seeking help.

Exactly! If you don’t know what a tool is called, it’s hard to ask for it. Knowing the proper jargon can help you find tutorials or resources more easily.
