Should I Upgrade to 1440p or my CPU to Reduce Bottlenecking?

I've got an Intel i5-12400F paired with an RTX 5070, and I'm noticing some bottlenecking while gaming on my 1080p monitor. I'm trying to decide whether to upgrade to a 1440p monitor or to invest in a better CPU. Since I mainly play single-player games and don't really care about competitive FPS, is upgrading to 1440p worth it for me? What are the benefits of 1440p over 1080p for gaming?

Upgrading to 1440p will definitely ease the CPU bottleneck, but if you play more CPU-heavy games, consider eventually getting a better CPU too. Something like the 13600 or 14600 is a good choice if you find a good deal.

Totally pick the nicer monitor! If you can find a decent 1440p for around $150, that's a steal. Plus, it'd pair well with your current setup for 60fps gaming in most titles.

If you're into story-driven, single-player games, going for a 1440p monitor is definitely the way to enhance your gaming experience. It’ll look way prettier and give you more immersive visuals.

I had a similar setup and gaming at 1440p was solid for me! Just make sure you have XMP enabled to boost FPS. What motherboard are you using, by the way?

Your CPU can sometimes limit your FPS in games. By switching to 1440p, you'll push your GPU harder, which might help bypass that CPU bottleneck since the performance cap is often less restrictive at higher resolutions.
