Considering a CPU Upgrade for CS2: Ryzen 5 5500 vs 5600

Hey everyone! I'm currently using a Ryzen 3 3100, GTX 1080, MSI B450 A-Pro motherboard, and 16GB of DDR4 RAM at 2400MHz, with an M.2 SSD and a 550W PSU, all connected to a 144Hz monitor. I'm planning to play CS2, but since I updated to Windows 11, the game has been running poorly. I typically get around 140 FPS, but during intense scenes, it drops to 80 FPS, which is really frustrating. I'm considering upgrading my CPU and wondering if the performance issues might stem from that. Between the Ryzen 5 5500 and 5600, which would be a better option for me, especially since the price difference is only about $20? Also, should I consider reinstalling Windows? Thanks for your help!

For just $20 more, the 5600 is definitely the better pick in my opinion!

While the 5600 is the better CPU, keep in mind that using 2400 RAM could hold back your performance significantly. I've seen drops of up to 40% due to RAM limitations. The upgrade from the 3100 should be worthwhile, but it won’t reach its full potential without faster RAM. That said, definitely get the 5600 over the 5500 for just $20 more!

The Ryzen 5600 is superior since it has 32MB of L3 Cache compared to the 5500's 16MB. This difference really impacts gaming performance. Also, consider upgrading your RAM; 2400MT/s is the bare minimum. Aim for 3200 or 3600MT/s at CL16 or CL18 for an optimal gaming experience. Prices are rising but you might still find good deals on these!
