Switching to Linux: Can I Get My VR Headset Working?

After years of using Windows, I've decided to switch back to Linux, specifically Kubuntu, and I'm really enjoying the experience so far! Most of my games are running well, but I'm having trouble getting my VR headset (HP Reverb G2 with an Nvidia 2080 Ti) to work. Right now, I'm stuck dual booting just for VR. I'm curious about a few things: a) Is it worth trying to get my headset working with Kubuntu? b) Is there a better Linux distribution for VR? c) Should I just wait until VR compatibility improves before making the switch completely?

It’s definitely possible to get VR working on Linux! Most issues are due to SteamVR, so you might want to look into using something like Wivrn instead. I've heard that getting the G2 up and running on Linux can actually be easier than on Windows since Microsoft has dropped support. Give it a shot!

What’s the deal with Ubuntu, though? Why avoid it?
