How can I switch to 5GHz WiFi on my new computer?

I recently built a new computer and I'm looking to improve my WiFi speeds. However, when I check the advanced settings in Device Manager, I only see three options: Beacon Interval, Preamble Mode, and Wireless Mode. I can't find any guidance in YouTube tutorials on how to adjust the settings for 5GHz connection. Unfortunately, I'm relying on WiFi and can't use Ethernet. What steps should I take to enable 5GHz and increase my download speed, which is currently around 30 Mbps?

First off, you need to make sure your WiFi router actually broadcasts a 5GHz signal. Open your network settings and see if the 5GHz network is available to connect to. It might not be obvious that you don't have to mess with Device Manager at all for this! Just connect to the right network instead.

Exactly! Once you're in the right network, your computer should automatically adjust. Just make sure you’ve selected the correct WiFi band.

Also, keep in mind that while 5GHz can offer faster speeds, it can be more sensitive to obstacles like walls. If you're only getting 30 Mbps on 2.4GHz, there might be other issues affecting your connection, not just band selection.

To access advanced settings specifically for your network adapter, go to Network and Sharing Center, then look for your adapter settings. You won't find this in Device Manager. Also, check if your router can handle the 5GHz band; some older models can’t.

Thanks for clarifying! That's good to know; I'll look for those settings.
