Hey everyone! I'm in a bit of a pickle and need your advice. I currently have a laptop with 8GB of DDR4 RAM running at 3200MHz, but ever since I upgraded to Windows 11, it's been sluggish. I usually use around 84% of my RAM, and I notice the fan speeds up whenever I open browsers like Chrome or Edge with PDFs. I'm considering my options: should I revert to Windows 10, upgrade my DDR4 RAM to either 4GB or 8GB, or is it worth switching to DDR3 RAM with 8GB or 16GB? What's the best way to go here? Thanks for any help!

If your laptop is designed for DDR4 RAM, you won't be able to use DDR3 at all. You should stick with DDR4 for any upgrades. If you're looking to boost performance, adding more DDR4 RAM is definitely the way to go. Meanwhile, you could also consider going back to Windows 10 if that's an option for you.
Yep, when I had issues, I had to learn the hard way too!
Exactly! DDR3 won’t work in a DDR4 setup. I’d definitely recommend upgrading your existing DDR4 RAM—having that extra capacity could help your performance in Windows 11. And if your laptop has an available slot, go for it! Just make sure it's the same speed and size as your current RAM to avoid any issues.
Thanks! I checked, and it shows I have one slot open, so it sounds like I can upgrade.
Good call on making sure they're matched—last thing you want is compatibility problems!
If you're purchasing RAM, it might be worth looking into a good deal—some places sell DDR4 kits pretty cheap these days. Just consider that the RAM needs to be compatible, so try to match the specs of what you already have. Good luck!
Oh, for sure! I've seen some great prices lately. Thanks for the tip!
I found a great deal on RAM a few days ago, so I’d suggest keeping an eye out!
Remember, adding more RAM will help, but if your CPU is still under heavy load, that could be causing your fan to kick up. You might also want to clean out the cooling system and see if that helps with the temperatures.
Yeah, I’ve done that before! It can really make a difference.
Good tip! I always forget about the maintenance bit!
Just a heads-up on RAM types: your laptop needs SODIMM DDR4 RAM, not the standard UDIMM sticks. Also, with another 8GB stick, you’ll see a nice performance boost. After the upgrade, your laptop should handle Windows 11 much better!
Got it! I definitely want to make sure I order the right kind.
Right on! And if adding RAM doesn't help enough, you might want to think about a lighter OS down the road.

Wow, I had no idea the compatibility could be that strict! Thanks for clarifying!
