I'm planning to upgrade from AM4 DDR4 to AM5 DDR5, but I'm wondering when RAM prices are likely to decrease. I've heard various opinions and want to understand the market better. Any insights or predictions?

Honestly, it's pretty tough to predict. There's so much uncertainty around tech prices, especially with the potential economic impacts and global events. I built a new system recently, and I just had to bite the bullet on the prices. They may not return to normal for quite a while, possibly a decade if things don't settle down soon.

That sounds frustrating! But at least you got your new setup. I just hope prices don’t keep skyrocketing with newer tech releases.

I heard some predictions that we might not see affordable DDR5 until around 2029, depending on how the market shifts with AI and if there are any disruptions. For now, it looks like prices are going to stay high for a while.

If you're just upgrading, remember DDR4 is still good enough for most users. The shift to DDR5 isn't necessary for everyone, but the price will likely adjust once demand decreases or new models come out later.

Most estimates suggest we might not see a price drop until late 2026 to 2028. Some users say it depends on how production levels improve, especially from manufacturers in China. Keep an eye on DDR6 though; some think that could significantly impact DDR5 prices when it eventually arrives.

I wouldn't count on prices dropping too much unless there's a major shift in the market. If they stabilize, it could take some time before we see reasonable pricing again.
