Hey everyone! I'm considering getting a smart voice recorder and could really use some input from those who have experience with these devices. I've heard a lot about two models, TicNote and Plaud, but I'm not quite sure which one to go for.
Plaud catches my eye with its sleek design, which is important to me since I'll be using it frequently. However, TicNote seems to offer more advanced features, especially in terms of AI capabilities like automated summaries, keyword extraction, and strong translation features. My main interest is for work meetings, which often involve foreign-language calls, so a good translation feature would be incredibly helpful.
I've got a few specific questions:
- How accurate are the transcriptions in real-world use?
- Do the automated summaries actually help save time?
- Most importantly, how well do they handle translation for multilingual meetings?

I've been using Plaud for a few months mainly for meetings. The build quality is solid, and I really like the physical button for marking important moments during recordings. However, keep in mind that most AI features, like transcription and summaries, happen after the recording is finished. If you're looking for something straightforward, it's a decent choice, but it doesn't have much going on during the meeting itself.
I personally use a Sony ICD-UX570. Prices on these recorders have gone up, but models like the PX470 are also pretty reliable. Additionally, if you're looking for transcription, you can use Word or OneNote with Office 365, and there are free tools like Buzz that rely on OpenAI Whisper. Just keep in mind you'll need to edit the transcripts to turn them into usable notes.
I’d suggest going with TicNote! It can transcribe foreign languages in real-time and also has good translation capabilities, which is a game-changer for multilingual meetings. Plus, its accuracy for transcriptions and AI summaries are pretty impressive. And on top of that, it's more affordable than Plaud, which is a bonus.
