Hi everyone! I recently bought a gaming PC from my brother for just $200 since he upgraded to something new. I'm excited about the potential for upgrades to enhance the performance and graphics, but I need some guidance on what to prioritize and what would be compatible. Here are the specs I'm working with:
- **Motherboard:** ASRock B560M-C (I initially got confused with a B550 model, sorry!)
- **Processor:** Intel Core i7-11700F, 2.5GHz. I was thinking about upgrading to an i9, but I'm unsure about compatibility with my current motherboard.
- **Graphics Card:** NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060. I'm interested in possibly moving to an RTX 5070Ti if it fits with my setup.
- **RAM:** Corsair 32GB DDR4. I'm wondering if there's a need to go over 32GB or if my motherboard supports DDR5.
I don't mind investing some cash into upgrades, so I would appreciate any suggestions on where I should look to get the best performance for my money! Thanks in advance!

Hi! Quick correction on the specs—B550 is indeed AMD territory, so you were right to switch to the B560M-C. The i7-11700F is a good chip, and unless you’re planning on upgrading the entire motherboard, I wouldn’t stress about moving to an i9.
For your graphics card, go for the 5070Ti if you find a good deal. With gaming, that’ll give you a noticeable performance boost. Just be sure to watch out for your current power supply, though—as you upgrade the GPU, its capability could become a limiting factor in your system!
Hey! First off, you're right about the motherboard confusion—it’s definitely the B560M, not a B550 since that's for AMD chips. Your i7-11700F is solid, but jumping to an i9 won’t give you a huge performance leap, especially without changing the motherboard too. Most likely, you'd just end up with a faster i7 than what you already have.
For your graphics card, upgrading to the RTX 5070Ti is a good idea, especially if you plan on gaming at 1440p. Just make sure your power supply can handle it—speaking of which, what model do you have?
As for RAM, 32GB is plenty for gaming, so I wouldn’t worry about that. Stick with the DDR4 for now since your board doesn’t support DDR5 either. I think your best upgrade investment is the GPU!
Hey there! Looking at your specs, I'd recommend focusing mostly on the GPU upgrade. The RTX 3060 is holding up, but it’s starting to show its age for more demanding titles.
As for the i9, you could technically upgrade to one, but it would involve a lot more than just swapping out the CPU—you’d end up needing a new motherboard, and honestly, the gains just aren’t worth it right now. At this point, your power supply is going to be a crucial factor, so figuring that out is key too.
And about your RAM, 32GB is really sufficient for gaming unless you’re doing heavy multitasking or content creation. I'd stick with that for now!
Thanks for the advice! I appreciate knowing I don’t have to stress about the RAM right now. I’ll definitely focus on the GPU first.
Welcome to PC upgrades! First things first, the B560M is a solid choice so you’re set there. The 32GB of RAM is great—you’re covered unless you’re pushing some serious projects. GPU is definitely where to focus; the 5070Ti will improve your gaming experience. Also, don’t sweat the little mistakes, we all start somewhere!
So just to add on, since you mentioned considering an i9: the performance increase for what you’re currently running probably wouldn’t be super significant, especially not for the price. Just upgrading the GPU might give you the best bang for your buck right now. Definitely make sure your power supply is up to the task for a new card! Also, remember there’s no i8 processor—simple slip up, happens to everyone!

Exactly! And don’t feel bad about the motherboard mix-up; it happens to the best of us. Just focus on getting that GPU upgrade—it’ll make a noticeable difference!
