I'm trying to figure out why my PC crashes every time I use an external NVME enclosure. I recently built a PC and repurposed an old 2230 NVME SSD by placing it in an external enclosure since both M2 slots on my motherboard are occupied with a 4TB and a 1TB NVME. I've tested four different enclosures, including one with its own power supply, thinking that might help, but my PC crashed again while I was downloading data to the enclosure. When I rebooted, the external NVME wasn't recognized. I also tried an enclosure with a cooling fan, but that didn't resolve the issue either. Is it realistic to expect stable performance from an external NVME via USB 3.2? I'm also concerned about whether these crashes can corrupt the NVME or damage my PC. Can anyone recommend a reliable NVME enclosure?

Have you checked if the SSD is still functioning properly? It might be worth testing it directly in one of the M.2 slots on the motherboard. I know it's a hassle, especially in a small form factor PC, but it could help rule out issues with the SSD itself.
Make sure you've tried different USB ports and cables. Sometimes the issue can be as simple as a faulty cable or port. Just to cover all bases, give that a shot!
