Why is My Game Download Speed So Slow Compared to Steam?

Hey everyone! I just downloaded a new game to see why there's so much negativity around it. However, when I started the download, the launcher only showed me a speed of 2.5 MB/s, which seems really low compared to Steam where my speeds go up to 25.2 MB/s. Does anyone know why this might be happening? I'd really appreciate any help!

Keep in mind that your total network speed might be 25 Mbps, but actual download speeds can vary. The 2.5 MB/s could be what's happening after a recent update from Steam. They might fix it, or you could try reaching out to their support.

Also, check if there's anything else hogging your network, like other devices streaming or downloading at the same time.

It sounds like the server you're downloading from might be throttling your speed. This is pretty common if they have heavy traffic.

Exactly! Just remember, the server needs to upload that data to you, so it can impact the speed.

Was the game downloaded from the official developer's site, or a different source? If it's a torrent or a less reliable site, speed throttling could definitely be the issue.

It's definitely from the official site. I even used their dedicated launcher but the speed is still slow. Also, I experienced the same issue in my browser when downloading.

Another thing to consider is that those speeds aren't quite the same. Steam might be showing 25 Mbps while the launcher is reporting 2.5 MB/s, which is roughly equivalent.

Oh wow, I didn’t realize that! That could explain it.
