I'm looking for recommendations for a smooth operating system to install on a 12-year-old laptop. Here are the specs: 8GB DDR3 RAM (though it shows only 3.45 GB usable), a 512 GB HDD, an integrated AMD Radeon R5 graphics card with 494 MB, and an AMD A8-7410 processor running at 2.20 GHz on a 64-bit system. I really want an OS that offers a decent experience with minimal lag. Any suggestions?

I've had a great experience with Lubuntu on my older laptop; it runs really smoothly! You might want to give it a go.

I use Ubuntu LTS and MX Linux on my older machines from 2010 and later. MX Linux is pretty solid and designed to work well on older hardware. You could also try running AntiX from a USB stick to see how it performs before fully installing it.

Thanks mate! I’ll definitely try that.
