Is It Worth Paying Extra for the AMD RX 9070 XT Over the NVIDIA RTX 5070?

I'm building a PC for gaming on a 3440x1440 monitor with a Ryzen 5 7500F CPU. Right now, I'm trying to decide between the NVIDIA RTX 5070 and the AMD RX 9070 XT. The price difference at my local store is about $120, which is roughly a 20% higher price for the 9070 XT. I want to know if this performance increase justifies the extra cost. Coming from a 3060m laptop, both GPUs will be a significant upgrade for me. I'm mainly focused on playing single-player games like Baldur's Gate 3, The Witcher 3, Elden Ring, and another title I mentioned. While I don't really have special tasks like heavy video editing, I do want a PC that can handle games well. I'm not too familiar with concepts like DLSS or ray-tracing; I usually go with the presets the game suggests. I've read that while the 9070 XT has more raw power and VRAM, the 5070 might be a better choice due to its price and Nvidia's features like DLSS. I've also heard some complaints about AMD drivers causing issues with older games. So, considering the $120 price difference, should I go for the 9070 XT even if I'm not interested in complex settings or fiddling with features? This PC is meant to last for over three years, and I'm only planning to upgrade the CPU at some point.

The 9070 XT is about 30% faster and has 4GB more VRAM, so I'd say go for the 9070 XT, especially with that 20% price difference!

Thanks! What about ease of use? I've heard Nvidia cards are better for people who don’t want to adjust too many settings.

The 9070 XT competes closely with the 5070 Ti, so it's a strong option. It seems like a no-brainer given today's pricing!

For an extra $120, the 9070 XT is a solid choice. I own a 5070 myself, but if I had the chance to grab the 9070 for a similar price, I’d jump on it. It offers way better value long-term!

How do you like your 5070?

Either card will work well, but the 9070 XT is worth the extra cash for a few more years of good performance. You could always save the money you would spend on the GPU upgrade for a better CPU later.

Unfortunately, I already built my PC around the 5070 a couple of weeks ago, but it turned out to be faulty. I sent it for warranty, so now I’m weighing the replacement options.

I'd definitely recommend the 9070 XT. You should be able to max out most games at your resolution without too much hassle. Even if you have to tweak a few settings for some titles, it’ll still be worth it. Plus, you’ll enjoy steadier frame rates without needing to worry about frame generation.

Thanks! Honestly, I've never heard of frame generation before—sounds a bit confusing for me.

In a similar debate I had about choosing between two other cards, everyone seemed to favor the pricier option. The same goes for the 9070 XT.

Appreciate it!
