How do I properly dual boot Windows and Linux Mint on different drives?

I'm looking to set up a dual boot system with Windows and Linux Mint. I have a 1TB NVMe drive and a 250GB SATA drive. My plan is to install Linux Mint on just the NVMe drive first. Once that's done, I'll unplug the NVMe and plug in the SATA drive to install Windows on it. After that, when I boot my PC with both drives connected, will it prompt me to choose which operating system to start? I want to make sure I don't mess up any boot sectors or partitions.

That’s how I did my dual boot as well! I let the BIOS boot into Linux by default, and if I need to switch to Windows, I just hit F12 during startup to select the other drive.

Are you sure 250GB will be enough for your Windows setup? It might sound a bit tight if you're planning to install several games or applications. Also, you don’t really need to unplug the drives to dual boot. You can just enter the BIOS settings and select which drive you want to boot from each time.

I think it should be fine for me since I'm mostly going to use it for Fortnite and maybe a couple of other things. But what exactly do you mean by booting into the BIOS to select the boot drive? Last time I had dual boot, there was a menu that let me pick between the systems.

Yeah, that setup will definitely work! You can even have the Windows boot option show up in your Linux boot menu, so you don’t have to fiddle with the BIOS every time you want to switch OS.
