Is Upgrading to the 9850X3D Bundle Worth It?

I've recently upgraded my GPU from an EVGA 3080 12GB to an MSI 5070 Ti, and I'm considering whether I should take advantage of a bundle deal at Microcenter that includes an AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D, an ASUS X870-P Prime WiFi AM5 motherboard, and a 32GB Crucial Pro Overclocking DDR5-6000 RAM kit for $699. Here's my current setup: OLOy DDR4 RAM (16GB), ASUS ROG Strix Z690-A, and an i5-12600K. I'd love to hear your thoughts on whether this upgrade is necessary or beneficial!

That’s a pretty substantial upgrade! Does the bundle come with any RAM as well?

Yes, it includes the Crucial Pro Overclocking 32GB DDR5-6000 kit.

If you're into CPU-heavy games, like FPS or RTS at 1080p, you’ll benefit from the upgrade. But if you game primarily at 1440p or 4K with more graphically driven titles, your Intel will do just fine. The potential performance increase may not justify the expense in that case.

Great advice! Ideally, I’d like to hold off on upgrades unless absolutely necessary. But with RAM prices rising, I’m wondering if I should future-proof now.

An upgrade definitely isn't a must. The 12600K is still a fantastic processor. The 9850X3D would help if you're after super-high FPS in gaming, but it’s more of a luxury upgrade than a necessity. You might not see a huge performance boost for the cost, although the stability could be beneficial in certain scenarios.

What’s your primary use for this setup? Just gaming? The 9850X3D offers marginal gains over the 9800X3D, often runs hotter, and alternatives like the 7800X3D deliver great performance at a lower cost. For most users, the 7800X3D provides nearly double the performance compared to the 12600K with DDR4.
